One of the delights of Devon is the magnificent local food and drink - mouth watering cream teas and refreshing traditional cider. Tarka Country also abounds in craftsmen and women who produce distinctive goods that make ideal souvenirs. Discovering these delicacies and crafts will often take you deep into the north Devon countryside with a chance to unwind in the most peaceful of settings.

Set within this rolling patchwork quilt of fields are the villages that are among Tarka Country's best kept secrets. The traditional cob (earth and straw) cottages with their uneven thatched roofs are the very essence of Devon and the ancient village churches in the area, steeped in history,
often date back to the 13th century and beyond.
The centre of any village is its pub. Here you will often find old inns (some with complete with resident ghosts!) fine ales and food and an opportunity to chat with locals. Local fairs are steeped in tradition and full of rural colour, so why not join in the fun!

The rivers, coast and the remote and beautiful island of Lundy offer a different range of pleasures. Fish for trout and salmon, watch for seabirds and seals on a boat trip, or why not discover a whole new world under the water following a snorkel trail!
