Why not give your car a rest in the garage while you take a carefree, car-free holiday? Let the train or coach take you to Exeter. There are fast connecting rail routes from London, Bristol, Birmingham and many other locations around the country as well as excellent coach services. There are airports at Exeter, Plymouth, Bristol, Southhampton and oftrain.jpg (8888 bytes) course London.
From Exeter begin your journey of discovery by taking the Tarka Line to Barnstaple. Most members of the Tarka Country Tourism Association offering accommodation are happy to arrange to meet you off the train at Barnstaple or one of the smaller stations en route. Some members are prepared to arrange transport for you from Exeter or Okehampton which has good coach services from Exeter.
Cyclists wishing to take their bikes with them on the train are advised to check with their local Rail travel centre before booking as many trains have only limited space. Cycle carriage on the Tarka Line is free with no reservation required, subject to space being available. There is generally a limit of one cycle for each carriage on this line.
Even if you have to use your car to get to Tarka Country, try leaving it at your accommodation just for one day of your holiday and enjoy a different day out.
